IN Malaysia, palm oil production has reached its limit in cultivated area – about six million hectares. As the country has committed to maintaining at least 50% forest cover, there is no more room to expand palm oil production by planting more oil palm trees.
Instead, researchers are working to improve oil yield to increase the country’s output, which has stagnated at around 20 million tonnes.
