Gilley's remarks disrespect Malaysia's stance on Israel-Palestine conflict, says MCA Youth leader

PETALING JAYA: Visiting US lecturer Bruce Gilley's remarks during a programme at a public university in Kuala Lumpur have come under fire.

MCA Youth information chief Neow Choo Seong said the academic not only showed a lack of sensitivity towards Malaysia's foreign policy but also its stance on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

Below is his statement in full:

The ill-suited and inaccurate remarks made by Bruce Gilley, a visiting lecturer from the United States at a programme hosted by a public university in Kuala Lumpur earlier this week are very disrespectful and unbecoming.

Gilley took to X to express his arrogant views and openly declared that nations whose leaders condone attacks on Jews have no place in international affairs and should not be considered allies of the United States.

These remarks demonstrate not only a lack of sensitivity towards Malaysia's foreign policy but also a blatant disregard for the country's consistent stance on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

Malaysia's position on this issue has been consistent and unwavering. We vehemently condemn the ongoing Israeli attacks targeting the Palestinian people, including the recent airstrike on the Shati refugee camp in northern Gaza during the holy month of Eid.

These relentless attacks by Israeli forces against Palestinian land and citizens constitute a clear violation of humanitarian principles and international law.

The Palestinian people have the fundamental right to self-determination and deserve an independent, sovereign state based on the pre-1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital. They deserve to live in peace and security on their own land.

Individuals like Gilley who promote such misleading rhetoric have no right to enter Malaysia.

We urge the Malaysian government, particularly the Higher Education Ministry, the Foreign Ministry and the Home Ministry, to take swift and decisive action to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
