THIS article serves as a rejoinder to the letter “Road to equitable education” (The Star, March 21).

While I applaud the writer for his views on our education system that has to contend with a “challenging paradox of fostering national unity while guaranteeing equal access to all”, he omits an overriding consideration – that as an independent nation, we have been masters of our own educational destiny.
