I FREQUENTLY fly through the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) and I empathise with the non-Malaysian passport holders who have to get through long queues at Immigration. While most Malaysians enjoy a relatively rapid clearance through the autogate system, visitors to Malaysia – who will potentially spend money in the country and spur the economy, and should therefore be treasured – are not afforded a similar ease.

I acknowledge that the Immi-gration Department has done considerable good work to enable epassport holders from 10 countries to use autogates; however, the process is not as clearcut as it seems. Here are my observations:
