Balancing public health with economic gains

IN light of the recent decision by the government to remove nicotine used in ecigarettes and other vaping products from the Poisons List of controlled substances, several precautionary measures can be taken to prevent inappropriate consumption and reduce the potential harm of using these products.

1. Implement age restrictions: In the United Kingdom, Indone-sia, Vietnam and Australia, the sale and purchase of ecigarettes and vaping products are prohibited for anyone under the age of 18. Malaysia should introduce similar age restrictions to ensure that these products do not fall into the hands of minors.
