Thank you for your hard work

KUDOS and heartiest appreciation to the search and rescue teams for their tireless efforts at the landslide tragedy in Batang Kali, Selangor. They worked under very trying circumstances and managed to find all the missing bodies despite all odds.

The Fire and Rescue Department, police, armed forces, Civil Defence Force and everyone else involved worked their souls out – and not to miss out the wonderful dogs in the K9 unit.

Some personnel landed in the hospital due to overheating and dehydration. Some even forgot to eat! The Selangor bomba chief was hospitalised after suffering a minor stroke, but headed straight back to the site from the hospital as soon as he could. The level of dedication in this highly risky operation was beyond words.

We, the people of Malaysia, can only say terima kasih, jasamu dikenang!

Hopefully, a lesson will be learned from this tragedy, and the relevant authorities will be more alert to such activities and the surroundings in which they are carried out. We seem to be taking way too many things for granted, and we don’t seem to learn from all the tragedies that happen.

Our deepest condolences to the families of the victims. May all their souls rest in peace.
