Unsung heroes of the elections

IN the midst of the euphoria following a successful conclusion (eventually) to the 15th General Election (GE15), much attention was paid to election results and winners and losers. Hardly any mention was made of the unsung heroes of GE15: Election Commission (EC) officials.

From my observations on Nov 19 at SK Bukit Bandaraya, Bangsar, first as a voter then as a polling agent, I noticed that the EC officials present discharged their duties with professionalism and dedication. I could not find a flaw in anything they did. The staff were also very helpful to everyone who came to vote, especially senior citizens and the disabled – very often going out of their way to help.
