Let’s get going on those vital institutional reforms

THE CSO Platform for Reform congratulates Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim on being appointed the 10th Prime Minister of Malaysia. After five tense days, Malaysia finally has the beginnings of new government, led by Pakatan Harapan, the coalition that garnered 5,896,142 votes.

We ask all Malaysians to refrain from making statements that can incite anger, such as hate speech and religious sentiments, and to accept the democratic decision.

On behalf of the 100 civil society organisation members of the CSO Platform, we would like to express our hope that all work on the reform agenda will be continued and expedited.

We believe that the events of the last few days reflect this nation’s maturing democracy, and recognise that a unity government will have many challenges ahead.

We call on the new government to take the process of institutional reforms that began in 2018 to greater heights for the good of the nation.

The CSO Platform for Reform is ready to work closely with the government once again, when the Cabinet is chosen. Hidup rakyat! Hidup demokrasi!

The CSO Platform for Reform is a coalition of 100 Malaysia-based civil society organisations working on institutional reform.
