The six resolutions proposed by Wanita BN will chart the path for women’s empowerment

WANITA MCA endorses the six resolutions proposed by Wanita Barisan Nasional (BN), which were drafted as a manifesto for the top leadership of BN to consider in preparation for the next general election.

Wanita MCA has high hopes that the resolutions will be warmly received by the top leadership of BN and be integrated as the election manifesto or election promise when the time comes.

Even if not all of the proposals are accepted, we are sure that adopting a few of them will help BN chart a better future for Malaysia.

We believe these six resolutions have a recurring theme of empowering and enabling women to contribute more in all fields including education, information technology, governance, charity, religion, security and socio-economy.

These resolutions were the culmination of the discourse among the women's wings of Umno, MCA and MIC, to ensure that no facets of women’s welfare are overlooked, in order to build a future without discrimination and remove the bias of women being second-choice.

The proposed resolutions are as follows:

1) Special Education Assistance and a more flexible registration process to ensure that children who drop out can return to school easily;

2) Rebranding of the Supplementary Food Programme (RMT) by extending it to all students in need, instead of being limited to just B40 students;

3) Special Finance Agency for women such as women-only banks for women entrepreneurs. This helps ensure various concerns such as microcredit, e-commerce, and insurance for women can be managed efficiently;

4) Women’s-Only University offering courses which are relevant and in high demand in the job market;

5) Option for mothers with children below two years old to work from home to facilitate childcare arrangements without having to take salary and allowance cuts; and

6) Appeal to the government to amend the Federal Constitution, so that the word "father" under Article 14(1)(b) and Section 1(b) Part II is extended to include "mother" or changed to "parents", to resolve the citizenship conferment issue for children born abroad to Malaysian women.
