Can’t keep depending on subsidies

IT was reported that government subsidies for consumer necessities are projected to cost RM77.3bil this year, and that figure is projected to rise further next year. This is not sustainable. The country faces staggering debt and a still slow economy following the Covid-19 pandemic. The subsidies do not help.

Subsidies are essential to assist the B40 (lower income) group and those who are marginal in the M40 (middle income) group, but subsidies are not a one pill remedy. The government cannot continue subsidising and subsidising without end.
