Work together to deal humanely with strays

I WOULD like to discuss the tragic incident where a 40-year-old man died after being bitten by a rabid dog in Serdang, Selangor (“Rabies: One death reported in Selangor’, Sunday Star, April 10; online at bit.ly/star_rabies). It is a tragedy that could have been avoided.

The press statement released by the Selangor State Health Depart-ment has confirmed that the dog had been infected with rabies, although no symptoms had been noticed on the deceased. Hence, the local council and the Selangor Department of Veterinary Services have instructed a mass stray-catching operation.
