ECONOMY Minister Akmal Nasrullah Mohd Nasir’s statement that Budget 2027 will examine Malaysia’s preparedness for an ageing nation is both timely and necessary, “Economy Ministry examines Malaysia’s preparedness for an ageing nation in Budget 2027” (The Star, Sept 5).
At the Malaysian Institute of Retirement Management (MIRM), we welcome this focus. With the right policies, ageing can be turned into an opportunity to strengthen our economy and society. Older Malaysians are living longer. If supported properly, they can continue to play meaningful roles in the workforce, communities and the economy.
