IT is somewhat reassuring to read of a top South African infectious disease expert’s finding that the current Covid-19 vaccines can probably prevent severe illness from the newly identified Omicron variant of SARS-CoV-2, “MOH keeping strict tabs on Omicron, says Khairy” (The Star, Nov 30; online at https://bit.ly/3 fYWc).
Hence, it is important that our authorities stay alert and not be overly alarmed.
