IN THE past few months, MCA engaged with several business guilds and non-governmental organisations to gather feedback on their current situation.
This information was then relayed in the form of a Budget 2022 memorandum to Finance Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz. We urge the government to consider the various suggestions proposed to smoothen the process of economic recovery.
With the worst of the Covid-19 pandemic behind us and more than 90% of the nation’s adult population vaccinated, the Budget 2022 announcement will undoubtedly be the next focus for many.
The pandemic has ravaged the country and left a catastrophic economic aftermath.
Hence, as we rebuild in 2022, we hope that the government will be open to suggestions from all parties so that no one will be sidelined.
The Institute of Strategic Analysis and Policy Research (Insap) has in total conducted four online engagement sessions with stakeholders, experts, civil societies, and guilds.
From these meetings, the comments and suggestions have been summarised into three keywords - Recovery, Resilience, and Reform.
MCA’s suggestions encapsulate seven aspects - economy, education, healthcare, women, SMEs, Sabah and Sarawak, and livelihood.
The memorandum was handed over to Tengku Zafrul via a digital conference on Monday, Oct 25 by MCA secretary-general Datuk Chong Sin Woon, deputy secretary-general Datuk Dr Pamela Yong, and myself.
During the meeting, we also discussed, at great length, on issues related to education, youths, women, and Sabah and Sarawak.
The Finance Minister noted that there were many insightful suggestions which could be implemented and promised to review the memorandum thoroughly.
