No turning back on Undi18

MONDAY (Oct 4) marked the deadline for the government to lodge an appeal against the Sept 3, 2021, decision of the Kuching High Court ordering the Malaysian government to implement the lowering of the legal voting age to 18 years old (or "Undi18") nationwide by Dec 31, 2021.

MCA Youth, led by national youth chairman Datuk Nicole Wong had met with the Election Commission (EC) in April this year to submit our memorandum to implement Undi18 soonest possible, among others, and we applaud the decision by the Government, led by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri, not to appeal this decision in September. Since no appeal was indeed filed by Oct 4, the 30-day period has lapsed, and this is a sign of the Government's commitment to the implementation of Undi18 and finally give our youths the freedom to exercise their vote.
