THE “Malaysian Family” concept expounded by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob in his maiden address to the nation on Aug 22 has a nice ring to it. As I see it, it means prioritising Malaysian values, unity and well-being.
But while we welcome the idea of a Malaysian Family we should also ask: What has happened to previous unity slogans coined by political leaders before and after each general election? We are familiar with much-touted catch phrases like “1Malaysia” and “Malaysia Bersatu” among others.
