Born and bred in Malaysia but not citizens

I SUPPORT Tan Sri Lee Lam Thye’s call for the government to set up a special task force to study and make recommendations to expedite the granting of citizenship to those who qualify, “Approval for citizenship should be given sooner” (The Star, May 27).

As a former registrar of citizens at the National Registration Department headquarters in Petaling Jaya (1969 to 1975), I am aware of the plight of those who have been anxiously awaiting the approval of their applications for years.
