WHETHER it is Japan’s koseki seido or China’s hukou/huji system, household registration is the way forward for Malaysia.
We need a strong household registration system to anchor the many structural reforms that must be carried out in this country. From population censuses to automatic voter registration, from healthcare access planning to social protection reforms, it all requires an upgrade of our national ID system to unlock the statecraft capacity such registration holds.
