Keep these homeless dogs safe

LAST week, my family and I visited Papan, Perak, to feed abandoned dogs that roam the Papan dumpsite. The dump is on a hill, away from houses. Many volunteers visit daily to feed the dogs to keep them alive. We saw more than 60 dogs and even some puppies. It was really a sad sight to see them, homeless and living off rubbish.

At least they are safe here, I thought at first. Then I discovered that, unfortunately, that is not the case. Many lorries drive to and from the landfill site and pose a huge danger to the dogs. There is also the Ipoh-Lumut main road at the foot of the hill that the dogs try to cross, it seems, often getting knocked down.
