Onerous way back to school

EDUCATION Minister Dr Radzi Jidin has come up with some suggestions for how schools will operate when the movement control order (MCO) is lifted. His suggestions to solve the problems arising from Covid-19 and social distancing seem so simple and easy, one wonders if he is in grasp of the facts and system and structure of our schools.

The intention to break up classrooms into smaller units to maintain social distancing is commendable, but is it workable? Let’s take a school with 20 classrooms. The proposal to split the class into half would land it with an additional 20 classes. In all, the school would need 40 classrooms to accommodate the extra classes. Would it have enough rooms for all these extra classes?
