WHILE attending the International Labour Organisation (ILO) conference in Geneva, Switzerland, in June, I had the opportunity to meet some employers from India and to discuss their labour practices.
During our short discussion, they complained that the ILO seems to be taking a black-and-white approach to labour issues. They felt that the ILO tends to divide capital and labour, with the capitalist regarded as unjust while the labour force is seen as victims of capitalism that needs to be given due justice in terms of upgrading labour standards.
