Security laws should be retained

I REFER to the report “Govt hopes to abolish security laws this meeting” (The Star, Nov 14). The Pakatan Harapan government’s move to abolish the Security Offences (Special Measures) Act (Sosma), Prevention of Crime Act 1959 (Poca) and the Prevention of Terrorism Act 2015 (Pota) could turn out to be a big mistake.

It might be seen as a good move by people who do not know what crime-fighting entails, particularly against criminals connected to syndicates and gangs. It is never an easy or straightforward task, especially in obtaining evidence against them.
