I WAS rather amused but also confused by the news that the Speaker of the Selangor State Legislative Assembly is thinking of proposing a hefty hike in the attendance allowance of elected members from the current RM75 per day to between RM200 and RM300.

His argument is that the increase would encourage the elected members to attend as many sessions as possible so that issues would be actively debated and discussed.
