Safety in skin treatments

THE Dermatological Society of Malaysia would like to respond to the letter, “In the dark about medicines” (The Star, Jan 23), in which the writer expressed his displeasure with private skin clinics for not labelling the medications that are dispensed from their clinics, and denying the rights of patients to know the name of the medications prescribed. It should be noted that “skin clinic” is not equivalent to “skin specialist clinic”.

Private dermatologists practising in skin specialist clinics who are members of the Dermatological Society of Malaysia (PDM) are all registered with the Health Ministry and are all required by law to be ethical in performing their duties to provide safe and effective care to patients.
