Time to look at automatic registration

I STRONGLY support the views and proposals expressed by Tan Sri Ramon Navaratnam, “Getting 3.7 million to register” (The Star, Aug 3). I am quite sure that many concerned citizens would like to see the Prime Minister’s call to register to vote being translated into action without any further delay by the Election Commission.

We were among many families who had to undergo the hassle of turning up at a hearing of objections received when we registered to vote in a new constituency. Many of the families affected by the hearing that day had to travel considerable distances just to attend and some even sacrificed one day’s income in the process.
