New scheme a boon for workers

IT is heartening to read the report “Insurance scheme for private sector workers to kick off with RM70mil” (The Star, May 2). The Employment Insurance Scheme was set up to protect 6.5 million workers including 100,000 self-employed taxi drivers and drivers working with ride-hailing services.

The insurance scheme is vital for workers who lose their jobs as it would help them to support their families while they look for alternative employment or other means of earning incomes.
