Gap year programme would benefit students

IT is refreshing to note the recent announcement by the Higher Education Minister, Datuk Seri Idris Jusoh, that the ministry is mulling over the idea of a gap year programme for prospective university students, “Gap year for university students likely” (The Star, July 28).

The concept of gap year is picking up in numerous developed countries like the United States and Britain. Australia and New Zealand have an almost similar concept called overseas experience (OC) for their university students.
