Capturing traffic offences

A RECENT report about the Road Transport Department mulling over the creation of a mobile app to report traffic offenders has got me thinking about the various efforts over the years to improve road safety in this country. Among them was the introduction of the Automated Enforcement System (AES) in 2012, which was met with a huge public outcry and was subsequently withdrawn.

Last November, I wrote that a new concessionaire was scheduled to reintroduce the AES in the first quarter of 2016 covering 350 locations. We are now approaching the end of the second quarter and still waiting for the announcement.
