I ENJOYED a private screening of Redha (Beautiful Pain), a local film telling the story of autism, on a Sunday matinee slot. I was the only one who bought the ticket (Bintulu is a small town after all) but sitting alone in a theatre before the film began was not fun. Then the screen flashed “Current Pictures” and the rest is history.
Immaculate care was taken to detail the characterisation especially of Danial, the six-year-old autistic child (the stereotypical movements, speech and behaviour patterns of autism spectrum disorder); his father who tried to normalise the experience based on his traumatic life experiences; and mother who pushed for an answer for her child’s difficulties.
