Keeping tabs on bus drivers

Buses parking at TBS .AZHAR MAHFOF/The Star

AFTER hastily setting Feb 1 as the deadline for buses to be installed with the new telematics tracking device, the Malaysia Motor Insurance Pool (MMIP) is now giving bus operators a three-month grace period.

This shows that the implementation was not carefully thought out, bus industry players were not consulted and the authorities did not give the approval. If installed in all 47,441 buses in the country at RM3,400 each, the total cost will exceed RM161mil.
