Protecting young girls

I REFER to the reports “11-year-old girl might be youngest Malaysian mother” (The Star, Aug 5), “Girl, 11, gives birth to baby boy” (The Star, Aug 6) and “Baby of 11-year-old girl dies” (The Star, Aug 12).

It was reported that the 11-year-old girl was allegedly raped by her 31-year-old neighbour who moved in a month ago. Additionally, she said that she knew she was pregnant but did not dare to tell her family. Unfortunately, the premature baby weighing less than 1kg at birth passed away.
