Do not burden cigarette retailers

I READ with interest Mary Assunta’s letter, “Restrict Sale of Cigarettes by Licensing Retailers” (The Star, July 6) calling on the Government to license retailers for selling cigarettes.

As a retailer, I could not help but question the reason and motive of her proposal: is it a move to curb selling of illegal cigarettes or a move to try to curb the sale of cigarettes in general?
