Scale down GST to 3% in these difficult times

THE recent announcement by the Government to exempt the disabled, poor and students from the Goods and Services Tax (GST) is another piece of mind-blowing news. It will probably create a loophole to avoid this tax as it would be easy for others to get these groups to buy GST products for them.

I agree that the disabled and the poor should not be taxed. However, the Government has already dispersed BR1M and other aid to help them. GST is a broad-based tax and the Government has confirmed that essential items and food are not taxed.
