I REFER to the letter, “Have proper lift maintenance programme” by Prof Dr Jeffrey Chiang Choong Luin, the honorary secretary of IEM (The Star, March 2).
I recall a similar incident at a hotel in Tanjung Bungah, Penang, back in October 2003, when a 38-year-old woman passenger named Marina Jaya was killed in an overloaded lift which stopped halfway on descending due to a failed safety catch system.
