Algae can also be used for feedstock

I REFER to “Research hub to identify algae for making aviation fuel” (The Star, Dec 7) in which it was reported that the Aerospace Malaysia Innovation Centre is to select an optimal algae strain to produce jet fuel in Malaysia.

At a time of uncertainty, when the commercial viability of many of the world’s airlines is threatened by high fuel costs due to dwindling world petroleum reserves, research into suitable algae for production of bio-fuel is timely and can be considered a beacon of hope for the future of aviation.
