Drivers only need basic medical test

I REFER to the report 'Fit to drive,' (The Star, Sept 11) on commercial vehicle drivers being tested for drugs under a medical check-up scheme when they renew or apply for new licences.

While it is commendable for the authorities to ensure drivers of commercial vehicles are not high on substance that make their concentration on the road below par, one must question whether there is really a need to carry out so many checks under eKESIHATAN.
