Writing naturally from reading

I REFER to Dr M.A. Nair’s views on Mastering writing skills (The Star, July 27) and I concur with him. I have met enough people, most of them recent university graduates, who have trouble forming a proper sentence in English.

One way to learn and master a language is through reading. Unfortunately, not many of us here read anymore. Most people find reading a chore and most students in Malaysia today read nothing but textbooks. Is it any wonder then why the average student cannot write in English?
