I HAVE been following, with much interest, the debate sparked at the 7th Forum For Nuclear Cooperation in Asia (FNCA) in December 2006 and the official pronouncement of our Deputy Science, Technology and Innovation Minister that the country would soon resort to nuclear power for its electricity supply (The Star, June 29).
Among the arguments raised against the construction of nuclear plants in Malaysia is that any atom that can be split to provide commercial power can also be split into a bomb, and there is therefore a risk that nuclear energy may be hijacked for non-peaceful purposes.
