THE soaring prices of vegetables, especially red chillies, seems baffling. What caught me by surprise was the story “Red-hot boon for villagers” (The Star, Jan 20) about farmers in Pasir Puteh, Kelantan, getting high returns from this cash crop. 

Two weeks ago, traders were selling chillies above the ceiling price. Last week, we read that chilli growers were exporting their crop to the world market.
