Introduce Mandarin as an optional subject

I REFER to the letter from Ean Chong, “Airing drama in Cantonese a step backward” (The Star, Sept 14). 

Since the Government encourages Malaysians to learn or improve their Mandarin, I would like to suggest that the Education Ministry look into the possibility of introducing Mandarin as an optional subject in all Sekolah Rendah Kebangsaan.
