IT IS unbelievable – in this day and age, people committing suicide because they owe the village money-lender a couple of thousand rupees, because a bad monsoon has led to crop failure, dashing their hope of repaying the small debts. 

Yet, this is happening. It was happening in India that was supposed to be shining for the Vajpayee Government, which was voted out of power in May.
