Looking beyond budget goodies

Budget 2004 shows that the Government took heed of the disabled community who presented their case at one of the pre-budgetsessions. But, writes SOO EWE JIN who was in the meeting with them, this cannot be seen as just Dr Mahathir’s final goodwill gestures, it must be seen as putting a clear policy in place for the disabled community. 

WHEN Anthony Thanasayan, a well-known advocate for the rights of disabled Malaysians, made his presentation at one of the pre-Budget dialogue sessions in June, he did not quite expect an immediate and positive response.
