Expulsion may not be solution

THE Malaysia Crime Prevention Foundation views with grave concern the expulsion of 20 Form Five students of Sekolah Menengah Tuanku Abdul Rahman, a residential school in Ipoh, for alleged involvement in gangsterism in the school.

While understanding the seriousness of the problem in view of the students’ involvement in a gangster-like organisation like the “High Council” and their acts of terrorising fellow students, I wonder whether expelling them will solve the problem of violence in schools, particularly residential schools.
