Reaching out with a bridge to the future

IN both symbol and substance, a bridge is what Malaysia and Singapore need between them. It is a constructive concept that links both countries, helping to ease passage and forward movement while replacing the stagnation of the past. 

It is also something on which Malaysia is not hopeful of obtaining Singapore’s reciprocal cooperation. Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Mahathir Mohamad has noted how Singapore Senior Minister Lee Kuan Yew had intimated that Singapore is likely to reciprocate only after the retirement of its Prime Minister Goh Chok Tong, who harbours “a sense of nostalgia over the Causeway.”
