THE death of the female Sumatran rhinoceros in Sungai Dusun is truly a great loss, “Death of another rhino puts pressure on breeding programme”, (The Star, April 18). 

These rhinos, although removed from the wild, are part of a rapidly dwindling population. Rhinos in South-East Asia have been pushed to the brink of extinction by relentless poaching and habitat loss.
