IT MIGHT have been a passing remark, but the mere mention of a proxy voting system was enough to bring both sides of the political divide to a rare common stand: a resounding no.

Election Commission chairman Tan Sri Abdul Aziz Mohd Yusof probably did not expect the reaction to come so fast and furious and he has now clarified that the EC had never any intention of considering proxy voting and that he had brought it up only as an example of what systems were used in other countries.
