IF you were anywhere near a TV last week and caught even a little glimpse of that right royal wedding, you would have heard this word: fascinator. I love this word! And who doesn’t want to wear a fascinator after seeing the Duchess of Cambridge in them when she was still Kate Middleton? And how about the wild variety of the things on the guests at the April 29 Westminster Abbey ceremony?
If, by chance, you somehow managed to miss this bit of fashion trivia, here’s what a fascinator is: A head piece, made of anything from feathers and netting to lace, that can be worn in the place of a hat and that is attached to the head with a headband or clip. You’re supposed to wear it either to the side or the front – and, I must say, it makes for an interesting addition to any outfit. They have been around since the early 20th century and are popular among British women, though of course they were given a boost when Kate started wearing them.
