PAS and Bersatu have officially “bercerai namun masih duduk serumah” (divorced but are still living under the same roof). On June 8, PAS announced it was terminating its political cooperation with Bersatu.

Like most messy divorces, PAS had a laundry list of grievances. Chief among them was Bersatu’s aggressive manoeuvring over the Perlis mentri besar post and a collapse of trust that PAS leaders declared “could not be easily repaired”.
