The Charity Shield axe – a tragedy or an opportunity missed


YESTERDAY was to have been a happy day for Malaysian football fans. The M-League was to resume after five months, with the Charity Shield match between Selangor, the Red Giants, and Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT), the Southern Tigers.

It does not get bigger than that in Malaysian football. Selangor have won the Malaysia Cup 33 times since the tournament started in 1921 while JDT have won the Cup in four of the last six finals.
