I WRITE in support of the letter by Tan Sri Lee Lam Thye, “Flood of lessons to be learnt” (The Star, Dec 22; online at bit.ly/star_ lessons).
I wish to add that a proper investigation be done specifically on Taman Sri Muda, Shah Alam. Residents there have been complaining of floods for many years but they were ignored. Surely we have local experts who know how to divert the waters to a safer place? If we do not have experts then get foreign aid.
Lackadaisical local officials have to be held accountable as the flooding there seems to be a yearly event – and now lives have been lost.
Urgent preparations have to be taken immediately as extreme weather conditions all over the planet due to global warming will likely lead to a repeat of this massive flooding.
My heart goes out to the victims and I urge banks and government agencies to provide them with aid, free of charge.
I really applaud the way Malaysians of all races and backgrounds came out to help the victims. There were reports of those in the B40 (lower income) group generously sharing what little they have with others irrespective of race or religion.
Kudos also to religious organisations and NGOs. Grassroots cooperation among the diverse races during these floods reflect the true spirit of the Malaysian Family.
